Exploring the Drum Carder with Henry & Roy Clemes

Sold out.

Join Henry and Roy Clemes, makers of famous Clemes & Clemes carding and spinning equipment, as they cover all aspects of the drum carder!

Henry has been building fiber arts equipment for over 44 years, drum carders for 37 years, and Roy has worked in the family business for over 20 years. Together they have introduced multiple innovations to the fiber arts community. They regularly instruct spinners in the use of drum carders for carding specific fibers and work closely with animal growers to get a better return on their investment.

This class will cover how and why drum carders work, various tools that can increase the efficiency of the drum carder, and the differences ad uses of semi-worsted type carding and woolen carding.

Students will start with clean, washed wool in the lock and venture on to blending dyed wool top and other fibers, while working part of the day on manual drum carders and the rest of the day on electric drum carders. The class will cover various ways of removing fiber from the drum carder and ways of storing the carded fiber until you are ready to use it. Students will take home several batts which they create during the class.

FEE: $98 includes all instruction, wool used to create batts that can be taken home, and use of manual and electric Clemes Elite drum carders, one per student.
