Plying Techniques on the Wheel

Take your spinning to the next level by learning several techniques for plying your yarn with Jennifer Green.  In this class you will be introduced to Navajo plying, Andean plying and thread plying techniques, allowing for a wider range of textured and artistic yarns from colorful fibers. 

FEE: $50 includes all instruction, threads and embellishments for plying. 

CLASS TIME:

  • Sun. May 24: 3pm-6pm

SKILL LEVEL: Advancing beginner, must have a basic understanding of spinning singles and have the ability to spin a continuous yarn. 

STUDENTS SUPPLY:  
  • Their own spinning wheel in tuned-up working order, rentals available at pull-down tab
  •  3 bobbins and a lazy kate for plying
  • Jumbo flyer is helpful but is not required
  • Niddy Noddy, any size, for removing samples quickly from the wheel
  • Pre-spun wool singles in various colors from any fiber, any weight, aprox. 30 yds x 6 (or about 200 yds extra total) ."Lonely" singles that have no previous purpose in your stash are great for use as demo/practice material and will find new life in Plying Techniques class.

Students must be familiar with the functions of the wheel if it is borrowed. Class rental wheels are functioning, tuned up new wheels by BumbleBee, Kromski, Clemes, Ashford, and more. The rental rate of $20 per class can be applied to the purchase of any rental wheel present in class. Please add your rental by clicking the pull-down tab at least 2 weeks in advance. 

Puffy Mondaes Sustainable Arts performs full wheel tune ups, including parts repair and assessment, as late as 2 weeks prior to FiberTrain Festival. For more info on their tune up process and to reserve a space, click here. 

LOCATION: The Belle Events Center, 120 13th Ave.NampaID 83651, 1/2 Block from FiberTrain Festival. Enjoy 13 local restaurants, a coffee house, and tea bar within 2 blocks, and free parking.

Class fees can not be refunded or transferred after May 3, 2015. 10% of your class fee is non-refundable after purchase, and will be retained by FiberTrain Festival to cover processing fees.

Classes booked on a first-come-first serve basis. Transfers and refunds will be approved on an individual basis by contacting FiberTrain Festival staff at info@fibertrainfestival.com. Please allow  48 hours to receive a response to your contact. Class fees that qualify for a refund after approval will be refunded on or before June 8, 2015, and may take up to 14 days to be viewable on your bank statement. 

Due to limited space at FiberTrain Festival, fees paid toward classes, registrations, and services, are exclusive to FiberTrain Festival 2015 and may not be refunded or transferred as credit toward purchases or registrations at other events sponsored by Puffy Mondaes Sustainable Arts. Fees paid are not transferrable to following FiberTrain Festivals registrations, goods, or purchases of any kind.
